By now you might notice I love living in a chemical free or low toxin household as much as possible. I'm not perfect but I do my best to keep my home clear of chemicals and synthetic fragrances that can harm my family's health. When I can, I make natural cleaning products for my home and ditch the toxic chemicals, I add them to my food and cups of tea for healing and instead of those icky fragranced candles that made my house smell good, I diffuse the most beautiful blends that make my home smell like a tropical paradise!
YES essential oils can really help with all these things and more but only when you know how to use them and only when you use a very pure unfractionated oil. HERES THE THING – NOT ALL ESSENTAIL OILS ARE CREATED EQUALLY AND ITS SUPER IMPORTANT YOU USE ONLY THE VERY BEST OR THEY SIMPLY WILL NOT WORK THE WAY THEY WERE INTENDED.

What's unfractionated? Fractionation refers to the process of separating the oil or skimming off the heavier layers off the oil. It's kind of like taking full cream milk and skimming the fat off, it's still milk but the properties and nutritional value have changed. There are only 2 companies in the world that don't fractionate their oils, Young Living and Florihana in France. The reason companies fractionate their oils is to make them go further, therefore offering a bigger profit margin and also, to make them smell sweeter. You will find these oils don't smell sweet, they smell earthy but most people don't mind that because they can see how pure they are. If you're not using one of these 2 brands, I encourage you to do a side-by-side sniff test and you will smell the difference. |

I choose Young Living because they are the largest essential oil company in the world, they oversee their botanical beauty's so rigorously with everything from the integrity of the soil, every seed used, the harvesting process, all the way through to the distillation and bottling. They are not a "rebottler" of oils, which most companies are, they own or partner exclusively with all their farms and oversee every step. While other companies test their oil only up to 7 times, they don’t do 3rd party independent testing (or they create a company under a different name to do pretend “independent” testing and they don’t actually know what’s in their oils. Young Living uses independent labs to test more than just the oil, they test the soil, their seeds and oil 18 times, in triplicate, twice over for every single batch of oil to make sure it meets their very high standards and this is what makes them a medicinal botanic, rather than just a sweet smelling oil.
The other reason I choose Young Living is because they are BEYOND ORGANIC and thats not just a fancy way of saying they aren't organic. While the Australian and US standards for organic certification require a farm to be free from synthetic fertilisers and pesticides for at least 3 year, Young Living will not accept a farm unless it's soil has been free from synthetic fertilisers and pesticides for at least 7 years and many of their farms have been free from synthetic fertilisers and pesticides for over 50 years. They really go above and beyond in the 20 years of using essential oils and trying almost every brand, I am yet to find a company with such purity and high standards. |

1. Young Living is the only company in the world that plants, harvests, distils, tests and bottles its own oils on its own farms, have a look at their Seed to Seal policy here
2. Young Living are the only company in the world that do not fractionate any of their oils. Simply speaking, fractionation refers to the process of removing layers off the original oil to make it smell sweeter and not as earthy and will also make it go further, making it cheaper to purchase. When an oil is fractionated it loses most of its potency and its molecular structure is completely changed and often distorted. YL do not do this, ever. They do not comprise the integrity of the plant or the oil and most people who use other brands can smell the difference, YL oils often smell stronger and earthier. 3. The vibrational frequency of Young Living oils are the same as the original plant from which they came, and in some cases, higher with some of the oils. The vibration of most other oils are much lower than the plant from which it originated from |

4. They are notorious for putting quality above profits, which to me speaks volumes about the integrity of the company. When they run out of a particular oil, (which they have done several times), it is because that particular harvest doesn’t meet their very high standards of the multiple tests they do. When this happens they will take that oil off the market and it will be out of stock until they have a harvest that lives up to those standards. This will happen even though they have access to the oil. This happened most recently when there was a worldwide shortage for a couple of years of Young Living's “Valor”. To me, this speaks volumes about a company, they could have kept selling it because it was one of their most popular oils but they didn’t compromise on quality. Interestingly other high profile oil companies purchased the batches that YL rejected.
5. Young Living sets the bar for it’s industry and after 25 years, they have just had their biggest year yet!This is an anomaly for this industry and speaks volumes about its stability and sustainability. |

We try to make better choices, we’re always on the look out for “organic” and “safe” products that are kind to the earth but unfortunately even if a bottle is labeled 100% organic it may still contain “fragrance’ which is another word for undisclosed chemicals or phthalates or even petrochemicals. To be certified organic a product can still contain 5% synthetic ingredients and most do. Sadly, not even our government regulatory bodies are protecting us. |

Young living oils and products are often called “beyond organic” and that’s not just fancy way of saying they’re not organic. They have farms all over the world in countries that have no organic certification practices, so they cant use the term "organic", however, this is a good thing. Young Living have much stricter standards and practices than the Australian Certified Organic regulations and the USDA Organic practices. For something to be certified organic, the soil must be free from synthetic fertilizers and pesticides for 3 years and must have 95% of the ingredients as organically produced, however Young living don’t believe that is enough. 100% of their products are organically produced and the soil on every farm has to be free from synthetic fertilizers and pesticides for at least 7 years, some of the farms have been free from synthetic fertilizers and pesticides for more than 50 years.
